There was no point in remaining any longer, he thought, since the people of Nineveh were untouchable. He made the decision to depart from the city and embark on a journey.
Yunus fled from the area by boarding a ship. A huge storm suddenly formed as the ship was sailing across the ocean. The ship was about to capsize as the waves became raging.

The Belly of the Whale
At Allah’s peace, a massive whale rose from the ocean’s depths and sucked Yunus whole as soon as he was thrown into the water. Hazrat Yunus was in total darkness inside the whale’s guts, surrounded by the terrible cold, salt water, and the deafening quiet of the deep sea.

The people of Nineveh, including their king, confessed their sins, turned to Allah in adoration, and repented truly. They moved away from their idols and prayed to Allah for mercy.
The people of Nineveh apologised, and Allah, in His great kindness, saved them from the punishment that had before seemed imminent. The city was spared, and peace and prosperity were bestowed to the residents.
