The teachings of the Quran and the Hadith are the foundation of the Islamic notion of environmental care. The term “Khilafah,” which can be translated as “stewardship” or “vicegerency. Reflects the responsibility that humans have to the Earth as its stewards or trustees.
The Khilafah Concept
According to this Quran, Allah has designated humans to be the Earth’s steward. Humans given the power to control the world’s resources as khalifah, but they are also responsible for their actions. Khilafah’s position is one of guardianship rather than control or exploitation. It is the duty of humans to safeguard harmony, abstain from corruption. Guarantee the environment handled with care and respect.
Islamic teachings make it perfectly evident that Allah has given people the Earth and everything on it. Including plants, animals, water, air, and natural resources, as a trust (Amanah). In order to preserve these resources for future generations, it is expected of humans to use them wisely.
Islam emphasises Iqtisad, or moderation, in all facets of life, including the use of resources. Overconsumption and waste are viewed as discourteous gestures towards Allah’s gifts.
The statement, “The world is green and beautiful, and Allah has appointed you as His stewards over it,” is also attributed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). (Muslim Sahih)
This Hadith supports the notion of Khilafah as a duty to preserve and uphold the environment. Guaranteeing the prudent and wise utilisation of natural resources.
Preserving Natural Resources
Islam holds that Allah has given us natural resources including land, water, and forests, and that we should use them wisely. For instance, even in areas where water was plentiful, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stressed the value of saving it.
This verse underlines that, like people, animals are a part of Allah’s creation and should be treated with kindness. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) also highlighted in his teachings the need of treating animals with compassion. Daiming that compassion for them is a sign of virtue.
And after he leaves, he works to wreck crops and animals and incite corruption across the country. On top of that, is disliked by Allah.
This poem denounces any activity that damages the ecosystem or degrades the environment. Islam emphasises that harming the environment, whether through pollution, deforestation, or overuse of resources, is immoral. Khilafah’s responsibility is to make sure that human activity. Whether intentional or the result of neglect—does not cause the Earth to become filthy.
Muslims’ Contribution to Environmental Stewardship
Muslims are urged to adopt proactive steps that support environmental preservation because they are custodians of the planet. These include conserving water, recycling, cutting back on trash, planting trees, and using sustainable farming methods. It is believed that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself advocated cultivating the soil and planting trees as virtues.
He said in one famous Hadith:
“It is considered a charitable gift (sadaqah) for a Muslim if he plants a tree or sows seeds and an animal, person, or bird eats from it.” (Al-Bukhari, Sahih)
This Hadith stresses how stewardship can benefit society and the globe. As well as the spiritual and environmental advantages of managing assets properly.
In conclusion
In Islam, taking care of the environment, or Khilafah, is a matter of faith. Allah has given humans the duty of safeguarding, conserving, and managing the resources of the planet.
